Did you know that Facebook has been launching cover videos across Facebook this year?
It began in early April with Netflix’s Narco Page and now most businesses can opt to use a cover video instead of a still image.
Check out your Facebook page to see if it is available. Facebook is being a little coy over offering up official information on the roll-out of this feature. So far, cover videos are available on a majority of business pages.
So, you think you can upload any video you have to the cover image? Sorry, but Facebook hasn’t made this part easy. Facebook has set forth specific dimensions and length that must be met, and they aren't standard to most video files.
The specs for Facebook cover videos are at least 820 x 312 pixels, while the recommended size is 820 x 462 pixels. Cover videos can be anywhere from 20-90 seconds long and can loop in any way you want. Make sure that it is an MP4, and will make sense to the viewer without sound.
It can be challenging to create a video that plays across all devices. Not only do you have to have the video look great on mobile, Facebook crops the top and bottom of the cover video on desktop. Make sure that you create ample safe space so the text isn't cut off.
Here in lies the issue. If you use any other dimensions you will get scaling issues that won’t make the video look sharp. On your personal page, this might not be an issue. But for your business, you want to make sure that you are setting a positive brand impression.
It only takes 3-seconds for a person to make a decision about your company.
Video immediately grabs peoples attention. Just like in the news feed, a cover video will autoplay. This may help keep visitors on your page and stimulate more engagement.
